Madalitso Thom Juma, African Number 1
FM Madalitso Thom Juma popularly known as Baba in draughts circles was Malawian best during National Tournament in Lilongwe at Chisale Motel but as if that was not enough for him, he defied all odds and emerged best in the whole continent of Africa in as far as Draughts 64 is concerned during the World Draughts Championship that took place in St Petersburg, Russia from 19 - 29 October 2017.
Among those that suffered defeat on the hands of this Malawian heavy weight is GMI Dosca Ion, FM Bleicher, Alexander, IM Aslanli, Aslan and he further drew with GMI Uutma, Arno from Germany.
He amassed 10 points and finished on 33 in the global ranking and number 1 in Africa. There were more than 10 Athletes from African Continent from the following countries Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Mozambique, Dr Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia and Ghana.
Malawi has emerged as best in Africa in three occasions, in 2015 when it was represented by FM Enock Makoka Banda who finished on 41 on global ranking, in Zambia last year 2016 represented by IM Moses Winesi and FM Enock Makoka Banda and this year 2017 when ably represented by Madalitso thob Jumba
