The Association of Draughts in Malawi.
Welcome to official website of the Draughts Association of Malawi(ADMA). The ADMA is a non profit sport organization and is a member association of Malawi National Council of Sports effective July 25, 2012. It is the wish of the ADMA staff under the leadership of Misheck Munthali who is current president, to take the game into different schools across Malawi and probably out side Malawi depending on the availability of funds.
ADMA became a member of International Draughts Federation on 7 January 2013, soon after getting registered with the IDF these were the words of the president of IDF, Mr Vladimir Langin, "I welcome Association of Draughts in Malawi as a member of the IDF.
I hope we will work together successfully to develop draughts-64 in your country and in the world."
And the president of ADMA promised to work hand in hand with IDF in a quest to promote the sport within and outside.
Benefits of the Game of Draughts
Strategy board games like draughts are great for building good critical thinking skills, and the most simple and basic games are possibly the best. Playing draughts is a key to unlocking thinking skills and can promote healthy brain function in the elderly, and stimulate brain development in younger children.
These games are not only fun and enjoyable but promote good mental health and social skills.
Studies show that elderly people who engage in gaming, such as chess are less likely to develop mental disorders and their brains continue to function at a normal rate instead of deteriorating. Also children who are exposed to playing draughts at an early age tend to show more potential in school.
It is a fact that some games are restrictive or has a limit beyond which participation is impossible for example, a footballer may be famous while in youthful stage but as years go by playing such game competitively becomes almost impossible, at the same time some games are for atleast well to do people e,g,Golf.
This is not the case with draughts, Young or old, rich or poor everyone can participate effectively in the game of draughts. This game is not only fun and enjoyable but also promotes good mental health and social skills.
As the saying goes, “an idle mind is devils workshop” the game makes people especially the youth to be active with game rather than thinking about engaging into some immoral behavior which can make them contract deadly virus H
ADMA goals include; taking the game of draughts, both Variants 10x10 and 8x8, to a higher level by organizing tournaments and trophies locally and internationally and to make Malawi a respected draught nation and reinforce its dominance on the African continent and world at large.. Both physical and online matches will be organized to expose our local players to the outside world. Charity work will be another area of consideration. Our further intention is also to be affiliated to African Draughts Federation(CAJD) and World Draughts Federation(FMJD) so that we can be participating in all international tournaments either organized by Confederation of African Draughts or World Draughts Federation.
